Introduction:
At Kai Coffee, we’re always searching for coffees that balance comfort with character—coffees that feel familiar yet still offer something distinctive in the cup. This natural-processed Catuai from Finca Las Acacias immediately caught our attention for its mellow sweetness, soft fruit notes, and beautifully rounded structure. It’s a coffee that feels effortless to drink, while still rewarding careful brewing.
Grown in the La Paz region of Honduras, this lot reflects a thoughtful approach to both farming and processing. The natural process brings gentle depth and sweetness without overpowering the cup, making this an approachable single origin that works equally well for everyday brewing or more intentional tasting.
Finca Las Acacias is owned by Roger Antonio Domínguez Márquez, who manages several farms in the Marcala area of La Paz. His five-hectare plot is planted with approximately 21,000 coffee trees, primarily Bourbon and Catuai. Roger oversees every step of production, from selective harvesting to careful drying, ensuring consistency and quality year after year. His curiosity and willingness to experiment continue to shape the future of his farm and the coffees it produces.
From The Importer:
This coffee is sourced as a microlot through Cafe Imports’ ongoing work in Honduras, led by green buyer Piero Cristiani. The focus of this program is to identify small, farm-specific lots that demonstrate exceptional quality and provide producers with premium prices for their best work.
Natural-processed coffees from Honduras are still relatively uncommon, but quality-focused producers like Roger Domínguez are helping redefine expectations. Ripe cherries are carefully harvested and sorted before being dried whole on raised beds or patios for extended periods. This slow drying process enhances sweetness and body while maintaining balance and clarity.
Cafe Imports has invested heavily in long-term relationships across Honduras, working closely with cooperatives and independent producers alike. Through regular origin visits, quality feedback, and support for experimentation, they continue to uncover standout coffees that highlight the growing potential of Honduran specialty coffee.
